Robert Rodriguez has wrapped up production on a live-action virtual reality series called The Limit, according to Hollywood Reporter. The series stars fellow San Antonio native and former collaborator Michelle Rodriguez.
The series comes from the VR division of STX Entertainment, STXsurreal, and is expected to be released mid-2018 via STX’s VR app Surreal.
The Limit is written, directed, and produced by the filmmaker, and follows Michelle Rodriguez from a first-person perspective. In the action series, Rodriguez is “a genetically enhanced weapon of mass destruction, as she tries to destroy the covert agency that created her.” The series seems like a perfect fit for Michelle, who is known for her action-packed roles, including her recent appearances in the Fast and Furious franchise as the character Letty.
Production on The Limit began in late January at Robert’s Double R Productions in Austin, Texas. It's no surprise that this filmmaker is experimenting with VR, since Robert is no stranger to innovation. Remember Spy Kids in 3D? Obviously ahead of its time. "I'm a huge fan of VR, and I started Double R Productions with Racer Max to create innovative content for the medium," he said in a statement. He says producing The Limit with STXsurreal is "is a great way to kick things off."
"By assembling entertainment's most sought after writers, directors, and actors we have a shot at changing the VR industry,” STXsurreal co-president Andy Vick told THR. “The combination of Robert and Michelle is a perfect example of what STX is cooking up."
