Star Wars star John Boyega has drawn a line in the sand.
On Wednesday morning, Boyega tweeted out, "I really fucking hate racists."Â
This tweet generated a lot of attention, but it came in response to the killing of George Floyd. Prior to condemning racists, Boyega tweeted about Floyd's death, stating that the incident appears to be part of a "never ending cycle."
"This just burns. Seems to be a never ending cycle. The murderers need to be charged severely," he wrote. "Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy."
Both of these tweets generated backlash from people who expected him to shy away from the topic. Several fans wanted him to acknowledge that prejudice isn't specific to white people while others didn't condone his language. Yet, this didn't sway Boyega. He stood firm in his comment and fired back at people suggesting that he amend his sentiment.Â
And just in case his tweets didn't hit home, the actor took to Instagram Live where he further doubled down on his remarks.
"So I'll say it again," he said during his IG Live session. "Fuck you racist white people. I said what I said."
He also denounced any fan who enjoys his work but is a racist.
"If you're a fan of me and you support my work and you're racist and you're arguing with what I was saying, fuck off," he said before explaining that he's not worried about these comments jeopardizing his career.
"I'm not the guy. I'm not Hollywood. I've never ever left the UK to go live in LA for over a year," he continues. "I'm from London."
Boyega isn't the only person angered by Floyd's killing. On Tuesday, the people of Minneapolis flooded the streets seeking justice for Floyd. The protests escalated with police using riot tactics to disperse the crowd.Â
