Stan Lee was laid to rest in a small, private funeral—just as he'd requested.
Representatives for his POW! Entertainment company confirmed that the ceremony took place early Friday, where his closest friends and family paid their respects to the comic book legend.
"As we all continue to process our feelings of loss at the passing of a true legend, many are asking if there will be a memorial in Stan's honor," POW! said in a statement. "Stan was always adamant that he did not want a large public funeral, and as such his family has conducted a private closed ceremony in accordance with his final wishes."
The company went on to say that other memorials are in the works, and intend to share more details in the near future. POW! has also set up a memorial wall on Lee's official website, where fans and colleagues can express their condolences and remember Lee's vast contributions to the entertainment world.
Lee died Monday at the age of 95. He had suffered a number of illnesses in recent years, including a battle with pneumonia; however, officials have not confirmed a cause of death.
The NYC native is arguably the most influential and prolific figure within the comic book realm, as he helped create iconic Marvel characters like Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and the X-Men.
