Young Thug Randomly Tweets Hypothetical Swimming Question to Michael Phelps From Jail

Understandably, only a few tweets have gone out on Thugger’s account since his May arrest. Two of those are now swimming-based questions for Michael Phelps.

Young Thug apparently has swimming on his mind.

While awaiting trial on RICO charges, the 31-year-old rapper took to Twitter on Wednesday to pose a hypothetical question to Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps

“I’m talking with my roommate and we’re wondering if you could swim 100 miles from the middle of the ocean back to shore,” wrote Thug, who is currently locked up in Fulton County Jail—and whose account certainly could have been commandeered by an impostor here.

I'm talking with my roommate and we're wondering if you could swim 100 miles from the middle of the ocean back to shore - @MichaelPhelps 🏊‍♂️

Phelps, a known hip-hop enthusiast, responded shortly after, expressing confidence in his ability to pull off such a feat.

“Yeah. I think I could make it,” the 37-year-old wrote along with a swimmer emoji.

Thug proceeded to ask Phelps how long he thinks that particular swim would take. The Olympian has yet to respond with an estimate. Only six tweets since Thugger’s May 9 arrest are currently on his feed, two of which are the swimming exchanges.

Phelps is currently the most decorated Olympian in the history of the Summer Games, holding a total of 28 medals, 23 being gold. The 37-year-old retired from competitive swimming following the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

The tweets left fans confused and amused. While some were convinced Thug’s Twitter had been hacked, others jokingly theorized he was planning an escape.

Many also weighed in on the 100-mile swim question, claiming it would be extremely difficult even for Phelps.

An elite swimmer can swim a mile in a pool in about 16 minutes. Taking into account the rough conditions of the ocean, the lack of food or clean water, and the insane about of time it would take, no I don't think even the world's best swimmer would survive.

As a swimmer myself, 100 miles even for someone very well trained is kinda not possible. Plus how would you keep track of direction and replenish yourself. (1 mile would take about 25 minutes or more for someone that swims decently in ocean water)

Thugger has remained behind bars since May, when he and other YSL associates were arrested on racketeering- and gang-related charges. He’s currently facing 62 felony charges, including possession of a machine gun, violation of Georgia’s controlled substances act, and participation in a criminal street gang. His legal team has made multiple efforts to get him released on bond. The presiding judge chose to deny the requests, citing concerns about the rapper being a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Young Thug’s trial is expected to begin in early 2023.
