Rowdy Rebel stopped by Hot 97 on Wednesday to drop a freestyle for Funkmaster Flex, beginning with some bars over Jay-Z’s The Dynasty: Roc La Familia track “You, Me, Him and Her.”

First off in the clip above, two up-and-coming rappers from Rowdy’s crew, Drizzy Juliano and Kaimikaze Kai, spat freestyles over Mobb Deep’s 1999 song “Quiet Storm.” Starting just after the 9:00 mark, Rowdy delivered a lengthy verse over the “You, Me, Him and Her” beat, which in 2000 was originally bodied by Jay, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, and Amil.

“Thirty in the clip, I’m doin’ dirty on the strip/Get a birdie just to flip, then out to Jersey with my bitch/He snitched on the gang, got him buried in the ditch/Steph Curry with this thing, so I barely even miss,” Rebel begins his four-minute Funk Flex freestyle. Near the 11:00 mark he switches to a slick beat by DB! and “Super Gremlin” producer Jambo.

Rowdy’s latest session arrives just a month after the Brooklyn rapper dropped a freestyle over Lil Durk’s “AHHH HA” instrumental, marking his first release of 2022.

Back in December, Rowdy took to Instagram to call out his record label, Epic Records, for allegedly not paying him. Rebel signed a deal with Epic back in 2014, just two weeks after fellow GS9 collective member Bobby Shmurda secured his deal.

“I’m not dropping no more music until @epicrecords pay me,” Rowdy wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “I haven’t received one check for all the music I put out since 2014. I been patient but enough is enough.”

In December 2020, Rowdy Rebel was released from the Collins Correctional Facility in New York after serving six years. Since his release, the Brooklyn rapper has dropped a string of singles, including “Jesse Owens” featuring Nav, “9 Bridge” with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Doe Boy’s “Ain’t My Fault.”
