Joyner Lucas has returned to the what-if approach he previously explored on his 2019 ADHD single “Devil’s Work.”

On Friday, Lucas rolled out the track’s sequel, complete with an accompanying video that sees the artist watching a montage of news clips while questioning a higher power about why the depicted events were allowed to happen. For example, early into the new song and video, Lucas imagines a version of the 2022 Oscars slapping incident wherein Will Smith and Chris Rock instead figure out their issues off camera.

In the first verse, Lucas criticizes this higher power (“You ain’t playin’ fair no more”) and later addresses the murder of Pop Smoke (“You dropped the ball”), the tragic death of Kobe Bryant (“Take back the day he ever stepped inside the helicopter”), and the wrongful detainment of Brittney Griner.

Also mentioned in the track are George Floyd, PNB Rock, DMX, Takeoff, 6ix9ine, Candace Owens, Kanye West, Tory Lanez, and more.

“Devil’s Work 2” will appear on Lucas’ new album Not Now, I’m Busy, which is expected to arrive soon.

In October, Lucas let fans know he would be making his acting debut in an upcoming film also starring Mark Wahlberg. Although details remain scarce, a release is expected either this year or next.

“This is the acting transition that I always dreamed of and I owe it to you,” Lucas told fans when disclosing the project.
