Lil Nas XĀ hasĀ added another accolade to his mantle.
The Atlanta City Council has officially declaredĀ Oct. 20, 2021, as āLil Nas X Day.ā Officials presented the honor Wednesday night atĀ The Gathering Spot, where the Grammy-winning rapper was joined by fans, friends, and ATL residents who celebrated his contributions to not only music, but the LGBTQ community.Ā
As pointed out byĀ TMZ, mayoral candidate Antonio Brown presented Lil Nas with the proclamation plaque, and shared a few kind words about the entertainerās influence.
āHe has made a considerable impact on the LGBTQ community by reshaping how society accepts LGBTQ artists within the music industry, and empowering others to break barriers and be more open, expressive, and personal through music and art,ā BrownĀ said. āAnd Lil Nas X, I just wanna say you inspire me. Iām running to be the mayor of Atlanta. I would be the first LGBTQ mayor in the history of the city. And you inspire me, allow me to believe I can do it. So thank you.
Lil Nas also gave a brief acceptance speech during the event, reminding the crowd about his roots in Atlanta.
āThank you all for being here. This is incredible ...ā he said on stage. āIām not gonna cry. Shout out to Atlanta. I know a lot of you probably didnāt know Iām from Atlanta ā¦ Iām from the A. But seriously, this is amazing. I would not imagine I would be here four years ago, when I was at my sisterās house, sleeping on the floor ā¦ This is incredible.ā
The proclamation came just days after Lil Nas and Jack Harlowās āIndustry Babyā took the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chartāmarking his third No. 1 in his relatively short career.
