Shaft, meanwhile, will indeed see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as private investigator John Shaft II. His son, an FBI agent, is played by Independence Day: Resurgence star Jessie Usher. In a March interview with Ebony, Usher let loose some sage advice for aspiring actors on the simply-can't-be-overstated importance of keeping your craft polished, even if the gigs are seemingly drying up.
"I've seen so many talented people come and go in L.A. for pilot season or whatever," he said. "They want to come when the iron is hot and they're trying to strike real quick and get in and out. It just doesn't work that way."
