Myles Lloyd is back with another R&B song, and this time he’s not asking for recognition and respect, but telling the world it’s what he’s owed.
Over a trappy beat, he sings about stepping up to take what’s his. It’s about moving from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat, taking control of your destiny. He’s completely honest about his ambition when he sings: “Gotta stay in my zone.”
“When I see myself I see Montreal,” Lloyd tells Complex. “I make the music I make for my city and one day everyone will understand why.”
The single is his fourth release of 2021, following his previous singles “Monster,” “Running On You,” and “Counting Days.” He’s got a new album due for release later this year.
“During this pandemic I learned how to self-record and that’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” Lloyd told us when we interviewed him in July. “I finished the entire project that way.” He added that his new album will have no features, which is intentional. “I just really wanted people to get to know me.”
