T.I. on Lil Xan: Young Generation Thinks 'Respect Comes From the Disrespect of the Former Generation'

Few instances have divided the hip-hop community as of late than Lil Xan calling 2Pac's music "boring."

In a recent interview with MTV, T.I. chimed in on the comments that have sent rap fans into a frenzy. "The younger generation wants to be respected, and they feel that that respect comes from the disrespect of the former generation,” says T.I. "This guy Lil Xan has never really taken the time out, he's not aware of how much work actually went into making it where Pac made it, where B.I.G. made it."

He even compared the mutual respect of the young and old generations in hip-hop to the NBA by saying that all professional athletes are aware of what you need to go through to make it to the league, but the same cannot be said about the path that is required to be a successful rap artist.

Lil Xan has certainly experienced his fair share of scrutiny for his questionable commentary on 2Pac. Waka Flocka said the 21-year-old is "banned from hip-hop," Rich Homie Quan called him the "wackest in the game right now," and countless fans have shared their two cents on social media. Still, some artists, like collaborators Rae Sremmurd, think that people need to cut him a break. Xan has even made some apologetic efforts of his own since the backlash, including performing Pac's hit "California Love" at a recent show.

Along with sharing his thoughts about Lil Xan's comments, T.I. was also there to discuss his involvement in the upcoming Netflix original series Rapture produced by Sacha Jenkins. The eight-episode series debuts on March 30 and will feature artists like Nas, Dave East, T.I., Rapsody, Logic, G-Eazy, A Boogie wit Da Hoodie, 2 Chainz, and Just Blaze.
