Ab-Soul has responded to speculation that he dissed Kid Cudi on one of the tracks off his forthcoming album Herbert, and merely scoffed at the idea.

In a sit-down with the Rap Radar Podcast, the Do What Thou Wilt rapper was asked to elaborate on a few lines off the new project by co-host Brian “B.Dot” Miller, who interpreted certain bars at shots aimed at the Man On The Moon hitmaker.

“It seems like you still have the competitive spirit on there, like you’re firing some shots off in the verse,” Miller said. “It sounded like you were talking to a specific rapper… It sounded like you were talking about Kid Cudi. You mentioned a name, and you said a lot of things in there.”

Soul went on to say that he did use the word “Cudi,” but meant it as part of a Crip slang term, not in regards to the Entergalactic rapper.

“You think I would diss Kid Cudi? The great Kid Cudi? On a song called ‘Church on the Move’?” he replied. “Peace be unto you. Come on, B.Dot. And y’all trust this guy with the lists?”

He went on to say, “No, look. Listen: Cudi is a term that we use, it’s kinda on some Crip shit, you know what I’m saying?”

The interview comes one day after Ab-Soul performed a new track called “No Report Card” in a Vevo CTRL performance, which would mark the fifth song to emerge off Herbert. The album is set to drop on Friday, Dec. 16 and will feature appearances from Big Sean, Joey Bada$$, Russ, Jhené Aiko, SiR, Punch and more.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Soulo said he hopes his new project will inspire others to move on from their trauma.

“We’re all going through things, all of us,” he said. “Me sharing my testimony — if it doesn’t help, it might let you know you’re not the only one going through it. That’s what ultimately gives me the courage to put it out there.”
