UPDATED 5:30 p.m. ET: Drake took to his IG Stories to post a screenshot of messages from the @drake_wedding account. "Instagram is a disturbing place," Drake wrote in response.

The message laid out that the person behind it made up the story. "Sorry it blew up like this I'm a 16 year old from San Antonio and never meant for it to be like this. Huge fan of you," they wrote. "You can have my account if you want. I don't know what to do."

A source close to the situation confirmed to Complex that the account was a prank.

The internet has rallied behind one man who's lobbying for Drake to perform at his wedding

Last week, a "drake_wedding" account popped up on Instagram. The account only has one post that clearly states its goal.

"Guys! It would mean the world to me if you guys could help me achieve this goal! I made this account so I can surprise my fiancé! Story share this so more people can see!" the caption of a direct message conversation between the owner of the account and Drake reads.

In the DM, the owner of the account, who has been identified as Washington's Jacob Hawk, asks Drake how many likes or follows it would take to get him to perform at the wedding. While normally this is a shot in the dark, Drake actually responded by telling Hawk to get a million likes and 100,000 follows on the account in order for him to show up at the wedding.

Hawk phoned in to Toronto's Kiss 92.5 radio station, where he explained the story to the hosts of The Roz & Mocha Show, who questioned the veracity of the exchange. During the conversation, Hawk said the interaction was real, and claimed that he "doesn't know how" to fake a screen recording. He also posted a screen recording of the exchange on his Instagram Story. Hawk said he's sent Drake multiple messages since reaching the goals.

"Maybe he has other stuff going on, but so far he hasn't responded yet. He hasn't seen it either," Hawk said. "I believe Drake and his word. We hit the goal, he'll come out and perform. That's what I believe."
