Trippie Redd has taken issue with Vic Mensa’s BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher, where he allegedly called XXXTentacion an “abuser.”
Trippie took to Instagram Live on Monday to diss Mensa. “Tell Vic Mensa pull up. Come pull up to L.A. We want to fight,” Trippie said. “Tell that nigga pull up. Dissing passed away people and shit. Lame ass dude. I was kinda fucking with dude, though. I like two of your songs. All the rest of them were trash, though. I truly realize why he ain't really pop off and why he ain't make it to the level he want to be at. Dude really trash, though.”
Since word about the cypher got out, Mensa addressed the backlash on Instagram. “I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it," he explains. "I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness, and holding people accountable for their actions.”
X was accused of domestic and sexual abuse prior to his death, and is set to be recognized by BET with the Best New Artist award, according to people who were at the filming of the upcoming awards ceremony in Miami this weekend.
Mensa, however, acknowledge that he never intended to offend the late rapper’s mother Cleopatra Bernard, whom attended the ceremony to accept X’s award for Best New Artist.
The 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be televised on Oct. 16.
