Maryland rapper Goonew was fatally shot on Friday. He was 24 years old.
His manager confirmed the death to The Washington Post. Police donât yet have a suspect in custody. The Prince Georgeâs County Police Department initially shared the news, tweeting that a shooting had taken place at 5:45 p.m. in District Heights, Maryland. The victim died at a hospital at around 7:30 p.m.
A reward of up to $25,000 is also available for information that leads to an arrest, per a PGPD news release.
Goonew had been involved in a shooting in 2019, though he survived. He reportedly tweeted a year later, âI Ainât Never Show This Pictures But July 5th Last Year They Told My Mother I Was Dead I Came Back⌠Iâm Blessed & thankful Iâm Still Here.â
He was known for projects like 2017âs Certified Goon, 2018âs Big 64 and Goonwick, 2019âs Back From Hell, and 2021âs Short Temper. This past February, he also released the single âBack Inna Mixâ via Big 64 Entertainment.
Maryland natives Cordae and IDK took to Twitter to offer their condolences.
