Thanks to his public feuds with rappers like Meek Mill and Beanie Sigel, The Game has consistently nabbed headlines leading up to the release of his latest record, 1992. But even those highly publicized beefs weren’t enough to rack in huge numbers for the album.
According to Billboard, 1992 debuted at the No. 4 spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. It marks The Game’s ninth top 10 album with 32,000 units earned, 25,000 of which were in traditional sales. It’s still a respectable number, no doubt, but it’s definitely not as impressive as his previous albums. The Documentary 2debuted at No. 2 last year, earning 95,000 units. The R.E.D. Album took the No. 1 slot in 2011. LAX peaked at No. 2 in 2008; Doctor’s Advocate reached No. 1 in 2006; and The Documentary debuted at No. 1 in 2005. Again, not the best first-week sales, but we could see the West Coast rapper's latest set rise in the upcoming weeks.
Kings of Leon landed their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Walls, earning 77,000 equivalent album units. Drake’s VIEWS landed on the No. 2 spot (40,000 units); The Suicide Squad soundtrack at No. 3 (35,000 units); Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface took the No. 5 spot (26,000 units); JoJo’s new album Mad Love debuted at No. 6 (25,000 units); Hamilton rose to No. 7 (23,000 units); Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman climbed to No. 8 (22,000 units); Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight returned to the top 10 at No. 9 (21,000 units); and Green Day’s Revolution Radio fell from No. 1 to the No. 10 spot this week with 21,000 units.
