G Herbo isn’t shying away from declaring himself the top dog in hip-hop.

The Chicago rapper took to his Instagram Story on Thursday to claim he’s the best rapper alive.

“I really feel like I’m the best rapper alive, [no bullishit],” Herbo wrote.

G Herbo isn’t the first rapper in the past few years who’s anointed themselves the Best Rapper Alive. In January 2022, J. Cole put himself atop hip-hop’s pecking order during his scene-stealing guest verse on Benny the Butcher’s single “Johnny P’s Caddy.” “On God, the Best Rapper Alive/Headshot, now go and ask the best rappers that died/They tell you he never lied,” Cole rapped on the track.

Meanwhile, last May, ahead of the release of his latest album Drillmatic, The Game positioned himself atop the rap food chain.

“When it drops, I promise you that if you put your ear to it you will then understand why I’m the Best Rapper Alive,” Game said in a since-deleted Instagram post. “My controversy has always stepped on my greatness, but that’s all about to change. This album has a strong hold on being the best album of my career. It’s just different… the last time I pulled over & wrote in my car was ‘I don’t need your love’ on The Documentary. Only thing is, back then it was a U-Haul. Today I pulled over the G-Wagon on Labrea because I couldn’t believe how dope the shit in my head was.”

Herbo’s claim arrives several months after he released his latest full-length offering, the double album Survivor’s Remorse. Released last October, the LP featured a star-studded list of guests, including appearances from JeremihFuture, Offset, Benny the Butcher, GunnaYoung Thug, Kodak Black, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Conway the Machine, among others.

Since then, the Chicago native has been feeling himself. In December, Herbo jokingly claimed he was a better singer than Usher. After sharing his take on Usher’s Confessions standout “Superstar,” Herbo added, “That was decent wasn’t it, though? That was decent. That boy good!” In the caption for the clip, he added, “@usher can’t fuck wit me on my worse day.”

After catching wind of Herbo’s boast, Usher responded by posting a cap emoji.
