Royce Da 5'9 Reflects on Falling Out With Lupe Fiasco, Says He Doesn't 'Feel Good About' Calling Him 'a B*tch'

In an interview on The Breakfast Club, Royce Da 5’9” has reflected on his falling out with his former podcast co-host Lupe Fiasco last year.

Royce and Lupe hosted The Lupe and Royce Show until they clashed last year and started trading shots last year in what initially seemed like a playful feud. It eventually led to the dissolution of their podcast, and at least for the time being, their friendship, too.

When the topic was broached in a new Breakfast Club interview, Royce confirmed that it started as friendly but it started to escalate after battle rappers Murda Mook and Loaded Lux essentially goaded Lupe into getting into a back-and-forth with Royce.

“It was friendly, but… There was a conversation on live stream on a public platform everybody to see,” he said around the 39:50 point of the interview, as seen above. “He assumed because Murda Mook and Loaded Lux, one of those guys posed a question who would win in a battle between me and Lupe. Now, URL [Ultimate Rap League] had already reached out to us and asked us, would we battle each other on the platform. We said no, we agreed that that’s not even something that we would be interested in.”

Royce explained that he never considered or even thought about Lupe being opposition to him, and he’s never considered him a battle rapper even if he considers him “an amazing rapper” overall. “Lupe is more of a cerebral, top-tier amazing lyricist,” he continued, noting that Mook and Lux “hyped up” Lupe about a potential battle. “Whatever they talked about, Lupe assumed I was the person who initiated that conversation.”

The situation between the two notably flared up when Lupe hopped into an Instagram Live session with Royce, Mickey Factz, and engineer Young Guru. “I seen it immediately, he was turned up already as soon as he brought him on,” he said. “And I said, ‘Lupe, put your shirt back on, and calm down.’ … He kept yelling and yelling and yelling and yelling, and then I called him a bitch. And that was the thing that I did, that I got to hold myself accountable for.”

He was asked by DJ Envy if he “regrets” snapping back at Lupe, who came into the IG Live with high energy. “Do I regret it? I don't know if regret is the right word, but I'm not happy about saying that, 'cause I don't think he's a bitch," said Royce. "I don't think we should speak to each other that way, but I do understand why I said it, 'cause it was just a reaction. It was a point that I got pushed to, and I feel like I gave a lot of warning points. I gave a lot of lean into it, and that's me knowing myself."

Royce added that he would consider it a “regret” if Lupe apologized to him about the situation, which would also lead to him apologizing. “I don’t feel good about it,” he said. They haven’t spoken to each other since the falling out. “Now I regret the song,” he said, to which Charlamagne asked who “won” the battle, at least on musical terms. “He can have it,” Royce replied. “I don’t think what he did, is him at his best. It just sound like a bunch of angry scathing shit, that he said because he was mad.”
