In a new interview with Angie Martinez, singer and rapper DaniLeigh described her fight with DaBaby on Instagram Live as “very triggering.”

The two, who share an 8-month-old daughter, infamously got into a fight on Instagram back in November, 2021. DaBaby broadcast the moment to his followers, and appeared to show DaniLeigh breast feeding their child on camera. Speaking with Martinez in an interview that premiered via People, DaniLeigh suggested that she’s ready to move on from the incident, which she said happened at a “very bad time” in her life.

"It was very triggering, and very sad," DaniLeigh told Martinez around the 4:00 mark of the video above. "I wish it didn't happen because I don't want my baby to see that later on in life. But she'll grow to be her own person and to be able to take things in." Martinez asked her how she’ll explain the video to her daughter if she ever sees it when she’s older, but she said her answer “depends on the type of person she grows up to be.”

The video has since been deleted, but as reported by TMZ, DaniLeigh was charged with two counts of simple assault, after DaBaby called the police. In the clip, DaBaby said, “I gotta record you for my safety. You ain’t fitting to bring this Black man down.”

“Me and Baby had … been together for about like, three years on and off,” DaniLeigh told Martinez of their relationship. “It was toxic. You know, we had our really good times."

She explained that early on. the two were “in love,” but when he started to have “his little mess-ups and stuff,” they would break up for a month before getting back together. “We broke up a lot. There was a lot of on and offs,” she added. “During that time, I definitely wasn’t his side piece.”

DaniLeigh said she thinks that DaBaby was trying to “make her look bad” with the Instagram Live, and accused him of being “very selfish.” Martinez asked her if DaBaby has apologized for the incident, to which DaniLeigh replied, “No, he’s just like that though.”

She said that even though she chooses to live life without regrets, she wishes the situation was “handled differently.”

Since they share a child together, DaniLeigh explained that it’s been a “challenge” when it comes to co-parenting, but they’re trying to be cooperative right now. "I feel like I really did love him so much that I was just giving it all to him ... I didn't even focus on my career," she added, while stressing that their relationship is "definitely over.” Asked if she would do anything differently, DaniLeiggh replied, “Yeah, I think the first time he showed me, or cheated on me… I would’ve left him.”

Elsewhere in the interview, she reflected on the “Yellow Bone” controversy. While she’s previously apologized for the track, she told Martinez that it was a “horrible mistake” even though it “was a hard time.” She initially reacted defensive to the backlash against the song, which many suggested is colorist. “It was definitely a learning lesson for me, and I just want to say to everybody I’m super sorry,” DaniLeigh said. “To even speak on skin tone, like, I realized how like messed up that is now.”

She also said that she’s gearing up to release a new EP called My Side, which she said offers “closure.” The project’s first single “Dead to Me” is out now.
