DJ Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia have helped launch the careers of your favorite rapper's favorite rappers. Appearing on Columbia University's WKCR from 1990 to 1998, the duo laid the foundation for modern radio. They played demos on air, executed funny and imformative interviews, and always had beats on deck for aspiring lyricists to demolish. Everyone from Jay Z to Wu-Tang to Eminem have appeared on the legendary Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show and tore shit down before they became hip-hop immortals. Stretch's sets put DJs to shame to this very day, and both hosts made the show fun with their hilarious personalities.
The legendary duo will be screening their documentary Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives this Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 at SummerStage in Central Park to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their radio show. The film will feature never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and rare photos. It'll tell the story of hip-hop's most important radio show from the mouth's of its creators and collaborators. So, come through for a necessary history lesson. There will be a concert from 5 to 8 p.m., the screening will be from 8 to 9:30 p.m, and it's all free. You can find more info here.
