Karl “Little D” Jordan, one of the two men convicted for murdering Jam Master Jay, was reportedly stabbed during a fight over the weekend.
Jordan, who had been jailed since 2020 for his role in the 2002 killing of the late Run-DMC member, was hospitalized following the brawl at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to an anonymous source per NBC News.
Two people were sent to a hospital following a fight that involved “multiple incarcerated individuals,” confirmed a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. They did not provide details on what caused the fight nor name individuals involved.
The facility, where Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently housed, has reportedly seen several fatal incidents, including two fatal stabbings last summer and an attack by MS-13 gang members that left one inmate stabbed 44 times last April.
Jordan and his co-defendant, Ronald “Tinard” Washington, were convicted last February for the murder of Jam Master Jay—born Jason Mizell—after a four-week trial.
Washington grew up in the same neighborhood as Mizell, while Jordan was the late DJ’s godson.
Prosecutors say Mizell, leveraged old contacts from the neighborhood—including Jordan and Washington, to carry out drug deals in the early 2000s when Run-DMC’s popularity was fading.
In August 2002, Mizell cut the men out of a $200,000 cocaine deal. Two months later, the two showed up to Mizell’s Queens recording studio and shot him at close range, according to the prosecutors. He was 37 years old.
Mizell’s cousin, Carlis Thompson, also told NBC News he was glad Jordan survived the attack.
“I think him being killed would be the easy way out,” said Thompson. “I’d rather him just be in jail for the rest of his life.”
Both men await sentencing pending a judge’s ruling on a motion to overturn their convictions. A third man indicted in Mizell’s murder, Jay Bryant, is scheduled for trial next year.
