Bun BΒ is the latest artist to lobby for a shot atΒ Verzuz.Β
As one halfΒ of the dynamic South Texas duoΒ UGK, whose other member,Β Pimp C, died in 2007, Bun made it clear that he isΒ willing to participate in a handicap match against another fundamental Southern rap group, 8Ball & MJG. On Tuesday, Bun took to Instagram, where he posted a mock flyer for a potential UGK/Ball & MJG Verzuz battle, and explained that Timbaland and Swizz Beatz want to gauge the level of interest in the potential battle.
"@therealswizzzΒ andΒ @timbalandΒ are open to having us onΒ @verzuztvΒ yβall," Bun wrote. "They just wanna see that the people want it. So tag them in my comments. Then repost the pic byΒ @willo_hdesignΒ to your page and story and tag them again. Letβs get the word out!"
Both UGK and 8Ball & MJG have classic records that helped define theΒ Southern rap sound, and judging by the early reaction online, this might actually happen.
News of the potential battle comes just as Verzuz continues to address ongoing sound issues. It's now been reported that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland will require artists to use a special system made by Roland, specifically for these virtual battles.Β
"Roland [Corporation] actually created a special system that they made for Verzuz for IG.Β And it works. Like you look at Ludacrisβ sound, it works. You can tell whoβs using the setup and whoβs not using the setup. Itβs only a couple plugs thatβs gonna change ya life. 112 was using it. I donβt think Jagged Edge was using it," Swizz told Revolt. "Weβre gonna make that an enforceable rule.Β You cannot do Verzuz unlessΒ you use the technology that weβre sending you because weβre sending it to you for a reason."
