Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby

Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby have both had a huge year, breaking through into the mainstream with tracks like "Hot Girl Summer" and "Suge" respectively.  One of those tracks turned up on the full list of 2020 Grammy nominations, but it wasn't the Best New Artist award many were hoping to see both competing for.

Among those to get a Best New Artist nomination were Black Pumas, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalía, Tank and the Bangas, and Yola. Megan did not pick up any nominations, let alone a Best New Artist nod. DaBaby did, however, land himself Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance nominations for "Suge."

Fans couldn't help but wonder aloud why Megan and DaBaby failed to earn Best New Artist nods.

I’m surprised Megan Thee Stallion or DaBaby didn’t get Nominated for Best New Artist for the #Grammys pic.twitter.com/Jd0o9OPH0Y

You telling me Megan Thee Stallion.
The Hot Girl couldn’t get a Best New Artist Nomination.
Cash Shit with DaBaby couldn’t be a Rap duo or performance shit nomination.
This is the SAME SHIT they did to Nicki Minaj. BLACK GIRLS GOT TO WORK HARD, TO GET HALF BACK.
Take notes. https://t.co/Nk5aFDA0tb

DaBaby not nominated for Best New Artist and Tyler not nominated for AOTY are such huge misses

The Grammy noms are full of diverse, young talent but I for one wanted more DaBaby! Two rap noms but no Best New Artist pic.twitter.com/pdOATVLMOv

Lizzo nominated for Best new artist even tho she’s been here forever but no Megan Thee Stallion who dominated urban radio with 3 songs this year man I’m gone! https://t.co/ecB612b5mC

"Suge" was nominated so the Grammys are aware DaBaby exists; even as a non-fan, I think he should've gone for Best New Artist

DaBaby already has a No. 1 album on his hands with Kirk, and Megan likely has a hit on her hands when she releases her highly-anticipated follow-up to Fever. The full list of 2020 Grammy nominations can be seen here.
