Nicki Minaj shared clips from an upcoming documentary about Queen, where she shared details of domestic abuse in her family and in a relationship with an unnamed partner.
In the clips Minaj posted to Instagram, a tearful Nicki shares stories from her childhood where she tried to protect her mother from violence.
"I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her," she said. "As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother."
In the clip, Minaj stretches her arms out to show the way that she tried to stop her father. She said those traumatic experiences helped shape her and that she made a pact to keep herself out of similar situations. "That’s why maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever, because I vowed from that age, ‘No man would ever abuse me, call out my name, treat me like that,'" she said. "And then all of a sudden, that was my life.”
Minaj explained in a second clip that she didn't stick to her promise. She found herself in an abusive relationship and said that it kept her from working on her music.
"Who was I gonna inspire when I had nothing in me to give? I let one human being make me so low that I didn’t even remember who I was," she said. "I was scared to get in the studio because I didn’t believe in myself.”
However, Nicki claims she removed herself from the situation and instantly went to work on her recent release.
While Minaj didn't name-drop anyone, Meek Mill let social media get him in trouble again. Proving the old adage that a hit dog will holler, Meek posted an image about a partner who will use you as a foil.
It's not the first time that fans have been forced to consider the fact that Nicki might have been in some toxic relationships. She's previously pointed out her relationship with Meek as a troubled one and in a recent Twitter spat, ex Safaree Samuels talked about the knife incident.
