Late Saturday night, André 3000 blessed fans with two new songs for Mother’s Day. Three Stacks released “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)” and “Look Ma No Hands” via Soundcloud. According to an accompanying photo with song credits, the former finds André on bass clarinet.
“Look Ma No Hands,” a 17-minute instrumental jazz cut, features André 3000 on bass clarinet and a cameo from James Blake on the piano. A representative for André 3000 has confirmed to Pitchfork both songs were written “several years ago.”
André 3000’s mother, Sharon Benjamin Hodo, died in May 2013. Shortly before sharing the new tracks, André posted screenshots of a final text message exchange with his mother to Instagram using the hashtag #momslastwords.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” André wrote in the caption of a photo of handwritten lyrics to “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents).” “I’m sure all the cards, dinners, flowers and last minute gifts are appreciated but I’ve learned the best gift a parent could get is to simply know their child is ok. Link in bio.”
