Production duo Nez and Rio have formed a new group Some x Y (pronounced Sometimes Why) and dropped their new three-song EP Let You Tell It.

The duo is known for being behind some of Schoolboy Q’s biggest songs—“Gangsta,” “Man of the Year,” and “Fuck LA”—as well as ASAP Rocky’s “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2.” Now, Nez and Rio have found themselves on the other side of the record.

Though it’s only been a day since the project dropped, it’s been catching on quickly, particularly since Q tweeted the SoundCloud link on the day Let You Tell It released.

The tape’s standout track “Freak” showcases both artists’ skill for production and vocals: as the vocals switch between rapping and singing, the beat oscillates between a rock-inspired production and something a bit more mellow.

As producers, Nez and Rio have also worked with Wiz Khalifa, Tinashe, Ab-Soul, Chance the Rapper, and more. In 2015, they received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album for their contributions to Q’s album Oxymoron.

“Freak” and “No Fuck$ Given” are available on Apple Music, and all three songs—including bonus cut “Without You”—are available below via SoundCloud.
