Another day, another batch of Apple news. This week alone, we got a new OS, word on their HomePod, and talk of the iPhone X possibly being discontinued. Today, new reports give Apple consumers a new look at what the tech giant might have in store for their iPhone devices in 2018.
According to DigiTimes, the next wave of iPhones might not be the OLED display utopia many dreamt of. Instead of the previously reported devices, Apple could only be offering up one OLED device, which would be 6.4 or 6.5 inches in size. The other two new devices would both be LCD (one around 5.7 to 5.8 inches, the other almost at 6.1 inches), which means that Apple would be totally backing away from the other OLED models they were said to have been developing.
While there's no word as to why Apple is walking back from going all OLED everything, it's good to point out that this is similar to the release of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X in 2017, with two LCDs and one OLED.
There's also talk that, no matter how large the displays are, or what kind of display they will be, Apple could equip all upcoming iPhone models with wireless charging, which should be seen as a plus.
Keep in mind, though, that these are just rumors. As we get closer to Apple's next big event, more concrete details should come forward. For now, take these are rough outlines of what the future of the iPhone can become.
