McDonald's Spicy McNuggets Return

McDonald’s is bringing back another wildly popular menu item—for a while.

Weeks after announcing the re-release of its Szechuan sauce, the fast-food giant confirmed it has reintroduced its Spicy Chicken McNuggets to select U.S. spots. The fare was first rolled out in summer 2020 and returned for a brief period in the following year. Since then, customers have been demanding McDonald’s bring the spiced-up nuggets back for good. And it’s clear the team behind the Golden Arches heard the calls.

“At McDonald’s we’re always listening to what our customers crave,” the company said in a statement to PennLive. “We’re excited to be bringing back this fan-favorite twist on our iconic Chicken McNuggets.”

The spicy nuggets feature a breaded crispy coating flavored with a spice blend of aged cayenne and chili pepper. The item is available in six-, 10-, 20-, and 40-piece options.

According to CNN, the spicy nuggets were made available earlier this week at about 6,900 U.S. McDonald’s, which amounts to about half of the locations in the country. McDonald’s also clarified that the nuggets will only be available for a limited time, but has yet to announced an end date.

The network reports the fast-food chain credited the spicy nuggets—and its Travis Scott collaboration—for increasing sales during the first months of global pandemic. U.S. McDonald’s experienced a notable 4.6 percent boost in sales in from July to September 2020, compared to sales during the same period in 2019.
