Two police officers were shot on Tuesday afternoon while serving a warrant in Newark, New Jersey.

The New York Timesreports the shooting took place around 2 p.m. An unknown person opened fire from a nearby rooftop, striking one cop in the neck, and the other in the leg. Both police officers were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition and are expected to fully recover from their injuries.

State Assemblyman Ralph Caputo told the Times: “We don’t know what the end result is going to be. It’s traumatic. In this day and age you never know when something like this is going to happen.”

Law enforcement is still searching for the suspect, with federal investigators, including the FBI and ATF, currently on the scene. No one is currently in custody, but sources say they are looking for a single shooter.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy took to Twitter on Tuesday to address the shooting.

“I am aware of and closely monitoring an unfolding situation in Newark,” Murphy wrote. “I am in touch with local authorities and the State is providing resources as requested. We will continue to support local law enforcement and ensure that all residents are safe.”
