Sarah Huckabee Sanders—who, by any reasonable account, was an atrocious White House press secretary under the Trump administration—now says she's been "called" to run for governor of Arkansas.
"There are two types of people who run for office," Sanders told the New York Times, per a Sunday-published report. "People that are called and people that just want to be a senator or governor. I feel like I've been called."
As the Timesreport itself makes clear, Sanders didn't bother to clarify who, exactly, was doing this whole "calling" thing.
Her father Mike Huckabee, perhaps best known for loving baked beans, served as governor of the state from 1996 to 2007 and has two failed presidential campaigns under his belt. Though no official announcement of Sanders' plans has been made just yet, the article states she's "giving every indication" that she'll be running for the position in the future.
"It's the role I've been pushed into," Sanders said of the spot, which opens in 2023.
Sanders' exit from the White House went down back in June. In April, the Mueller Report stated that Sanders had admitted to federal investigators that she provided baseless info to reporters regarding ex–FBI boss James Comey. Ironically, in the same Times interview excerpted above, Sanders said "I don't like being called a liar" and claimed "The other stuff bothered me far less."
