It’s that time of year again: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has officially begun, and New York City is abuzz with people from around the globe here to see the Fall/Winter 2012 collections from some of the best designers in the fashion industry. If you’re in New York, you may have also noticed the influx of models in the city — if not, they're the ones that look like stripper poles: tall, skinny and exhausted.

This exhaustion is natural, because modeling is not as easy as it looks, given the complicated garments, enormous shoes, and hundreds of judgmental eyes watching your every move under bright, blinding lights. Even though we tend to look at these perfect specimens like they’re not actually human, they are. And they fail just like the rest of us. So what better way to kick of Fashion Week than to honor those who may be the hardest working people during this week-long shitshow? These are The 50 Most Embarrassing Model Fails.

50. The Original Model Fail

This was the original runway model fail, and who else could have the honor than Naomi Campbell? She famously fell on the runway at a Vivienne Westwood show in '94, wearing 10-inch platform boots. The boots are now displayed in London's Victoria & Albert Museum, and the model supposedly uses another pair as a doorstop (assumption: weapon) in her London flat.

49. The Victoria's Secret Angel that Prefers to go Braless

She probably has free underwear for life as a Victoria's Secret model, but Miranda Kerr seems to prefer going au natural. Whether she's in an interview, on the red carpet, on set of a photo shoot, or out with husband Orlando Bloom, her lack of bra always seems to result in everyone's favorite wardrobe malfunction: the nip slip. You stay classy, Miranda Kerr.

48. She Eats Chicken, duh.

This model and known vegetarian, was interviewed about her choice of diet after a runway show. When the interviewer asked her what she eats, she responds “chicken." Her reasoning? "It's a bird, not an animal."

47. Adam Senn Dates Lindsay Lohan

Male model Adam Senn spent much of last year in a romantic tryst with actress Lindsay Lohan, most recently known for her reoccuring cameo in The Justice System, as a young, troubled, unemployed actress with a penchant for booze and blow. This guy could be getting (of age) boy band ass -- girls love him as the bad boy from MTV's "The City", and he's walked the runway for almost every major fashion house. Oh, and working as an underwear model for D&G is not exactly a dealbreaker. So crack-tweeting, rehab-frequenting, has-done-jail-time Lilo? Fail.

46. This Model Gives Good Face

At the Gharani Strok Spring 2006 show in London, this unknown model, who will forever be immortalized in internet history, was in for a disastrous turn of events. She not only fell, but face first into the laps of the front row. The audience was speechless -- you could've heard a pin drop… and the two straight guys present high-fiving.

45. Cindy Crawford's Acting Debut in “Fair Game”

Cindy Crawford made her movie debut in Fair Game, an action thriller co-starring one of the other Baldwins, William. The premise: Max Kirkpatrick (William Balwin) is a cop who protects Kate McQuean (Cindy Crawford), a civil law attorney, from a renegade KGB team out to terminate her. Cindy was nominated for three awards for her performance in Fair Game, but sadly, they were the Razzies for Worst Actress, Worst New Star, and a shared nom with Billy Baldwin for Worst Screen Couple. IMDB gives it three out of ten stars, and if that doesn't entice you, watch the trailer above.

44. Linda Evangelista, Anti-Age Cream Spokesmodel and Friend of Botox

Linda Evangelista, a model and spokesperson for L'Oreal Paris' collagen boosting anti-age products, looks amazing at age 43. Except it's certainly not natural or a result of the products that pay her bills: it's thanks to Hollywood's other favorite injectable, Botox! The model told PEOPLE she admits to using Botox because "how do other women feel when they see the pictures? Models are not superhuman. We grow old." Surprise! Linda's relationship with L'Oreal is no more.

43. Tyson Beckford Probably Can't Turn Left

Tyson Beckford reminds us that beauty and brains don't always go hand in hand, and it seems as though his being ridiculously good-looking is just about all he's got going for him. The dude has his own name tattooed on his left shoulder. Is it because he might forget it, or is his ego really that big? Maybe it just helps him turn left – after all, not all male models are ambi-turners.

42. Carolyn Murphy's Sex Tape Scandal

It's the first rule of being a celebrity, except it seems like no celebrities actually abide by it: don't get naked or sleep with someone on camera. Unless it's to get a job, of course. Model Carolyn Murphy and ex-husband Jake Schroeder taped themselves having sex during their honeymoon in Barbados, in 1999. Schroeder allegedly tried to sell the tape, and in 2006 was arrested and charged with extortion. As these things go, later that year the video was leaked onto the Internet anyway. Adding insult to injury, she didn't even get a reality show, clothing line, or fragrance.

41. Niki Taylor Fires Herself on the Last Season of Celebrity Apprentice

The last season of the Celebrity Apprentice was a battle of the sexes, and when model Niki Taylor had her turn at being project manager, “the women did a fantastic job," according to Donald Trump. Yet not fantastic enough to beat the men, and when it came down to the chopping block, she nobly refused to lay blame on anyone else but herself. Thus, Trump dropped another f-bomb with, “Niki, you're fantastic, but I have to fire you." Niki behaved like a class act, and literally, took one for the team. So why is this a fail? The project manager for the other team was GARY BUSEY.

40. Fillipa Hamilton vs. Ralph Lauren

Fillipa Hamilton is the model in the Ralph Lauren ad that became known as the biggest Photoshop fail of 2011. The company publicly apologized to her and to the public for the extremely re-touched photo, but once the media frenzy was over, fired Filippa for being too big anyway.

39. Michael Bergin's Revealing Book About Affair with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy

In 2004, 5 years after Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and JFK Jr. died in a fatal plane crash, model Michael Bergin released a book called The Other Man, and claimed that him and Bessette-Kennedy maintained a sexual affair throughout her marriage. The book gives explicit details of their relationship, and even alleges that she once had an abortion because she didn't know if the paternity of the child belonged to her husband, or him. His reason for writing such a revealing book is because he “always loved her." Grasping for relevancy by sharing intimate details about your loved one? And on top of that, she's dead? Fail.

38. Milla Jovovich: Male Models are Embarrassing

Milla Jovovich is not exactly a fan of the males in her profession, and has openly shared her thoughts about how she finds it “embarrassing." "I mean seriously: you're going to model for a living?", she's stated, hypocritically.

37. Carrie Bradshaw as Fashion Roadkill

Sarah Jessica Parker's infamous Sex & The City character, Carrie Bradshaw, walks in a fashion show in one episode and falls on her face. She's wearing a trench coat over a bra and panties, which probably made the experience even more humiliating, but what's worse is that she lays on the runway, and none other than Heidi Klum has to step over her like “fashion roadkill." Why is this fiction?!

36. Sore Loser Gisele Blasts the Pats After Super Bowl Loss

After the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots at the Super Bowl on the 5th, Gisele was quick to defend her husband's loss, but not necessarily his team's. After a fan yelled, “Eli [Manning] owns your husband!” at the supermodel, she shot back with, “You have to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball. My husband cannot fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time." So much for winning as a team, and losing as a team. We'll take your statement anytime, Wes Welker's wife.

35. I see London, I see France, I can see Yasmin Le Bon's Underpants

The usually flawless, Yasmin Le Bon, suffered the perils of a wrap dress when a gust of wind blew her dress open at a charity gala, exposing a lot of leg and a sexy pair of skin tone mom briefs. Nice!

34. Gisele Bundchen ”Bangs” Tom Brady

“You'll have to speak to my wife about that," Tom Brady replied, when an interviewer desperately questioned what it would take for the football star to trim his tresses. Consequently, the biggest joke in the NFL was no longer just a punch line but had a teller too, supermodel Gisele Bundchen. She singlehandedly turned one of the most beloved dudes in America into a Bieber-bowl-cut-sporting, ponytailing, revealing-that-he-doesn't-wear-the-pants-in-that-relationship tool, eliciting mockery from even his best of fans – including the Biebs himself.

33. Christie Brinkley Plays Roxie Hart in Chicago

The 58-year old model and actress played Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway in London's West End last year, and received a slew of negative reviews. Some mild, calling her casting a "disappointment," others claiming that the character should be played by someone younger, but worst of all, "isn't Roxie supposed to be a good singer?" Ouch.

32. Gisele Power Trips with Tom Brady's Baby Momma

We all know that, “no offense, but…” is always followed by something offensive, as if the warning beforehand is supposed to make the rest of the sentence acceptable. This is basically what Gisele Bundchen did to Tom Brady's ex and mother of his first child (Jack), model and now actress, Bridget Moynahan. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she essentially said that she didn't want to diminish Jack's relationship with his biological mother, but that she totally considers him her own son. So naturally, Bridget was outraged and did what any celebrity would: spark a tabloid frenzy, of course! In a statement released by her mouthpiece, Bridget implied that if Gisele really did love the kid as her own, she wouldn't parade him in front of the paparazzi and talk about him in the press. Which is essentially what Bridget did, to get her point across, so it looks like we have a tie. A double model fail!

31. Kamilia Wawrzynia Fetched a Pail of Water

One of the most memorable tumbles has to go to Kamilia Wawrzynia for falling twice during the Vivienne Westwood, Spring 2007 collection in Paris. She looks more like a kid learning to skate than a professional runway model, when she wobbles on the spot for a few seconds before her second spill. And what is with the stupid watering can?

30. Whitney Port Falls Down Stairs Modeling Hilary Swank's Oscar Gown

Star of MTV's The Hills and The City, Whitney Port, was one of 4 models chosen for a TV segment on Oscar fashion, presented by Vogue Editor-at-Large Andre Leon Talley. Whitney was wearing Hilary Swank's dress from the year she won the Academy Award for Million Dollar Baby. Unfortunately for Whitney, Hilary left no luck in that dress for an on-screen performance. She tumbled down the stairs on set, and yeah, the segment was shot live. See a little slice of MTV history at the 1 minute mark.

29. Tiiu Kuik Belly-flops at Oscar de la Renta

It's not just a trip or a fall on the runway, this is a full-out belly-flop and roll. Watch the clip to see model Tiiu Kulik trip over her pants and fall, and hear the audience gasp, at an Oscar de la Renta fashion show in 2004. It's not like anyone has ever heard of Oscar de la Renta right? Fail.

28. Ornelia Edwards Has a Wardrobe Malfunction Leaving Little to the Imagination

If you've ever worked with models or on a fashion show, you know that seeing nipples is about as common as no one eating on set (just kidding, they nibble). Models also rarely wear bras during shows, so seeing a set of nips saunter down a runway is also not out of the ordinary. But pulling a Janet Jackson quality nip slip is. At New York Fashion Week last September, model Ornelia Edwards' entire boob came out of her gold jumpsuit while on the runway for designer Elie Tahari, and unfortunately for her, there was no Justin Timberlake in sight to cup it – er, cover it – from the audience. Hey, at least it wasn't the Super Bowl. Check out the 10 minute mark.

27. Elizabeth Hurley is OK with Sharing

Ah, Hugh Grant's prostitution scandal. While in a long-term relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, the voluminously-coiffed Brit was arrested for lewd conduct in a public place with Hollywood prostitute “Divine Brown." Lizzy chose to forgive and forget, despite the fact that he gambled his relationship, and criminal and health records, for a $60 trick.

26. Naomi Campbell's Fashion For (Comic) Relief Show

It's not often Naomi Campbell makes headlines for doing good (unless it's for her court-ordered community service) so her fashion show to raise funds for tsunami relief in Japan, was a welcome surprise. Except “Fashion For Relief” made headlines for more than Naomi's good deed: it was a perilous runway that saw some of the best models in the world, stumble, tumble, bail and fail. The most notable, was 17-year old model, Lindsay Wixson, who wore a giant gold gown and a lot of runway: she fell four times in a row. Stay in school Lindsay, this might not be the career for you.

25. Tyra Banks Tests and Tortures her ANTM Contestants

That Tyra really makes her contestants on America's Next Top Model work for the prize. This time, walking in 10-inch heels on a slippery runway in front of the judging panel. You can't help but laugh at this clip with the audience track that's been added in, and at the deadpan looks on the judge's faces. Even the model herself laughs at her own fumbles, and probably because she realizes just how ridiculous the whole thing is.

24. When Models go to The Met Ball

They have the world's best designers at their beck and call, and should know how to work amazing clothing -- after all, they do it for a living. So when The Costume Institute Gala comes around, which is essentially the Academy Awards of fashion, models should naturally, be on top of the Best Dressed list, right? Nope. There was so much dress fail at the 2011 event, but the worst had to be Raquel Zimmerman (left) and Elletra Rosselini Wiedemann (right). Raquel went for a look that screamed “sexy yeti made a baby with Lord Voldemort," and Elletra chose to channel the ghost of bad prom dresses past.

23. Miss Universe and the Moon

Miss Universe 2004, Jennifer Hawkins was walking a runway show at a mall in Sydney when she had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction. Her skirt fell off and on to the runway, leaving her in just a thong. She ran backstage laughing, maybe crying, but most of all, mooning.

22. Janice Dickinson: The (Self-Proclaimed) World's First Supermodel

She allegedly coined the term “supermodel” and declared herself the world's first, but is more recently known for being, well, batshit crazy. She's written 3 books about her life and has often shared intimate details of her childhood, but there are a few things she says that just don't add up, literally. According to the stories Janice tells, she could've been born anywhere between 1951 and 1960, and maybe this weirdness about her age explains why she's had enough plastic surgery to rival Joan Rivers.

She's also no stranger to the small screen either, having been on every reality television show you haven't watched in the past ten years. Her brutal honestly as “the Simon Cowell of America's Next Top Model" got her fired from the judging panel after only a few cycles of the show, and naturally, it's years later, and she's still publicly talking smack about producer Tyra Banks. You also may remember Janice from other quality programming such as I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here! (both the US and UK versions), The Surreal Life, The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, and most recently, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

21. Crystal Renn Goes on the Photoshop Diet

Model Crystal Renn's weight seems to be an ongoing topic of discussion, namely because the plus-size model seems to be plus-size no more. When she shot a Fashion for Passion campaign in 2010, even she expressed her alarm at how slim she looked. Crystal did what anyone scrutinized in the spotlight would, and used excuse #2 from the Celebrity's Guide to Public Relations: Blame Photoshop (number 1 is “Call it Exhaustion”). The photographer from the shoot, Nicholas Routzen, has explained that the photos were “taken from a higher angle with a wider lens” and no significant Photoshop work was done. Conclusion? Team Routzen. Google 'Crystal Renn 2012', that's why.

20. Milana Bogolepova Fails Drunk and Pantsless

Russian model Milana Bogolepova is another title owner of an epic runway fail. She fell not once, but twice, during Dior's 2008 Cruise Collection show, while wearing a toothpick-thin pair of stilettos. Although the shoes are usually to blame, word is there were more than a few bottles popped backstage, and Milana got her hands on a bit too much bubbly pre-show. Professionalism! Bet she can't spell it either.

19. Naomi Campbell Would Rather Wear Fur, Naked

Naomi Campbell is a gold mine of fails -- and thus makes up a good portion of this list -- but one of her best hypocrisies was appearing naked in a 1994 PETA ad with 4 other women and the tagline, “We'd rather go naked than wear fur.” Fast-forward three years, and Naomi Campbell is strutting down the runway at Fendi wearing a fur coat. She's also been the face of Dennis Basso's line of luxury fur, and with an ironic twist, she actually is naked, excluding the fur. PETA has called her “a disgrace.”

18. Erin Wasson's Golden Globes Dress

Any fashion designer, especially her BFF Alexander Wang, would love to dress top model and street style star, Erin Wasson, for the Golden Globes. Instead of dressing like her usual stylish self, she basically took fashion and flipped it the bird by wearing this. Given her sartorial history, we'll give her the benefit of the doubt: it could've been a nice figure skating dress before it got attacked by a bear, and put on backwards.

17. Giselle Can't Stop Saying Dumb Things About Babies

She was back modeling swimwear 6 months after giving birth to son Benjamin, gave birth at home which she prepared for with weeks of kung fu (was she expecting a ninja baby?), and meditated throughout labor, so needless to say, Giselle and motherhood have never really been an example of the norm. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped her from self-righteously talking about babies and proper parenting practices. One of her more famous fumbles was back in September 2010, when she told Harper's Bazaar, “there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months." "WTF?", said everyone else.

16. There's a Reason Why Carmen Electra was not a Runway Model

At a Max Factor fashion show back in '07, Carmen Electra slipped on the runway and fell flat on her famous butt. The best part is when actress Allison Sweeney tried to help her up, and she bails too. Oh celebrities, they are just like us.

15. Heidi Klum Would've Looked Better from Far Far Away

And yes, that was a pun on Shrek's place of residence. A double entendre, if you will, because as you can see from the photo of the grotesque creature below, she's the one standing next to Shrek. How a supermodel can end up standing next to a big green monster and he's out-looking the sh*t out of her, can only be described in one word: FAIL. Heidi, we kid. Everyone at Complex would totally still bang you.

14. Introducing CATBAIL

CATBAIL is an anthology of the best bails from – you guessed it – the catwalk. With a little help from Photoshop, CATBAIL tells the story of your favorite model fails, and throws in some good fun like Twister, roller-skating and even a blessing by the Pope. Each photo is hilarious, and includes many of the model fails included on this list. Check it out, and you're welcome.

13. A Model with an Itch that needs Scratching

This photo speaks for itself. Really, dude? You couldn't wait 20 seconds to get backstage? Paris Hilton called, and she wants her herpes back.

12. From Feud, to Frenemies, to Friends: It's Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks!

What's crazier than Naomi Campbell or Tyra Banks? Naomi Campbell AND Tyra Banks, of course. They sat down for an episode of The Tyra Show to discuss and reconcile their 14-year feud. No studio audience was present for the taping, as Tyra claims it would've been too emotionally tough on her. It's pretty safe to assume that realistically, the studio just didn't have the insurance to cover potential victims around that level of cray.

11. Angela Lindvall Can't Remember Pharrell Williams' Name

The host of Project Runway: All Stars, model Angela Lindvall, recently told an interviewer that her most embarrassing moment on the show was messing up guest judge Pharrell Williams' name. She kept referring to him as “Jerell," who is a contestant and also the only other black guy on the show. Oh Angela.

10. The Tyra Banks Show

This clip basically says it all. Watch it, and then consider this: aside from America's Next Top Model, which has been on since 2003, this woman had her own talk show, on a major network, with new episodes airing 5 days a week, for 5 YEARS.

9. Burberry's Rookie Model Closes Show Minus Shoe and Dignity

For Burberry's Spring/Summer 2011 fashion show in London, Creative Director Christopher Bailey chose the newest face of the brand, teenage model Nina Porter, to make her runway debut by closing the show – a huge honor for a model. Except Nina couldn't walk in heels, so her big moment consisted of tripping over her own feet, falling on her knees, losing a shoe, and finishing the show without said shoe to what was either an encouraging or belittling applause (you can never tell with the fashion crowd). A finale fail for one of the biggest names in fashion, that was live-streamed across the globe? Yeah… nobody saw that.

8. You Don't Have to Fall to Have a Runway Fail

The ridiculous ponytail, the ass-grazing onesie, and the enormous platforms make this one of the best runway fails ever. This model wobbles down the runway at a Maria Lafluente fashion show in Madrid – for 20 extremely awkward meters. Ankles shaking, knees knocking, and an audience so uncomfortable that not one, but two men seated in the front-row offer their assistance. It's like watching a newborn giraffe (in gold heels) walk for the first time. Watch until the end, trust.

7. Fashion Show in Charleston is a Smash… Through the Runway

What's worse than falling on the runway? Falling through the runway! This is probably the best thing that's ever happened at Charleston Fashion Week.

6. Male Model Andrej Pejic Makes FHM's Sexiest Women List

There can be no talk of models without somehow including Andrej Pejic, the androgynous model that has been making headlines for the past year. He's currently ranked as one of the top male models in the world, but his career has been split between both sides of the runway: menswear and womenswear, and he's even been the face of a women's lingerie campaign. Last year he was voted by readers as #98 on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women List, but the magazine may not have agreed with this choice. A comment was included with the caption of his picture, referring to him as a “thing” and asking “pass the sick bucket” (how clever). The comment has since been retracted and the magazine has apologized, and Andrej has continued to take over the fashion world.

5. Jessica Stam's Face Eats Runway

This is one of those runway falls that makes you go “ooh!”, like you would when watching sports injuries highlights or someone get hit in the balls. Jessica Stam bit it hard on the runway during the Chloé Fall 2006 show in Paris. She tangled up her signature walk in a dangerous pair of 6” heels, causing her to fall forward and her forehead to smash into the runway. Is it wrong to laugh at her clutching her head in pain? Don't answer that.

4. “Kiss my fat ass!” – Tyra Banks, 2006

The most (read: one of the only) memorable episode of The Tyra Banks Show, was back in 2006 after unflattering photos of Tyra looking larger than usual in a one-piece swimsuit graced more than a few tabloid covers. Much to her audience's delight, the creator of the “smize” wore said swimsuit on her talk show, and had a heartfelt, impassioned message to her critics: to kiss her “fat ass” (cue self-spanking and simultaneous fist pump). The swimsuit, the photos, the melodramatic sanctioning of ass-kissing, and the standing ovation of the audience: it's all so embarrassing. And on top of it all, she wasn't even fat. The good stuff starts at 0:40.

3. Model vs. Giant Pendulum. Pendulum Wins.

What happens when a model on America's Next Top Model is faced with an obstacle course of a runway, complete with a steep staircase and giant swinging pendulums? Just guess. This clip is laugh out loud funny, with Jay Alexander's priceless facial expressions and Whoopi Goldberg's play-by-play. Needless to say, this contestant did not win the competition.

2. Introducing Cocaine Kate and Pete Doperty!

In 2005, the world was shocked when pictures surfaced of supermodel Kate Moss snorting a fat line of cocaine with then boyfriend, Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty. What?! A model and a rock star doing drugs?! It can't be. Sarcasm aside, this drug scandal was a lot more serious than a Michael Phelps or Miley Cyrus bong hit (and who knew they had so much fun!), since Kate Moss has a gaggle of younger siblings and a young daughter. Maybe this fail turned into a win, because when the media said “hey Kate, you're a mom and your boyfriend is a loser” she stopped doing drugs, eventually ditched the guy, and apparently, she “only drinks” now.

1. Naomi Campbell's Phone Etiquette

Naomi Campbell is one beauty you do not want to mess around with – especially if she's within arm's reach of a telephone. In 1998, she assaulted her assistant with a telephone in a hotel room (oh, and threatened to throw her out of a moving car). She beat another one with a Blackberry in '05 (accompanied by some good ol' fashioned verbal abuse), and a quick year later was back in court on more assault charges, for repeatedly taking a Swarovski crystal-encrusted cell phone to her housekeeper's head. On all three charges, she was required to complete community service and take anger management classes. Clearly, she failed at those too.
