UPDATED 5/8/16: We spoke to tattoo artist JonBoy, who confirmed that he did give Justin Bieber a face tattoo. JonBoy told Complex that he knows Bieber because "we go to the same church, Hillsong NYC."

"He came in on Friday night and decided on a small cross near the corner of his eye," JonBoy said. The tattoo is part of the religious awakening Bieber has been going through over the past couple years. "[The tattoo] represents his faith and purpose in God," JonBoy explains.

Earlier this week, Justin Bieber was in New York City for the Purposeworld tour, performing a pair of shows back-to-back at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and attending a pop-up shop at VFiles.

After his shows, Bieber hit the town to get some new ink with his pal Joe Termini last night. According to US Weekly, Bieber and Termini got matching cross tattoos just below their left eyes at West 4 Tattoo in the West Village.

The tattoo appears to be done by artist Jon Boy, who posted the above picture with Bieber. He appears to be tight with those in the fashion world. Separate photos posted to Instagram show him with Gucci designer Alessandro Michele and Fear of God's Jerry Lorenzo

Here’s a pic of Bieber on Instagram showing off his new ink.

The 22-year-old singer has told GQ that he thought face tattoos were cool, but only if they were done right. He also wanted to wait until he was older to get one. “Maybe when I’m really old, not super old, but maybe like, 40s or 50s or something,” he tells the magazine. “One above my eyebrow or something. Small.” Well, he got half of that right.

Jon Boy did not immediately respond to Complex’s request for comment.
