People are especially pumped that Canada’s Sarah Nurse, who scored the first goal of the game, became the first Black woman to win gold in hockey at the Olympics.

Sarah Nurse is the face of hockey right now. I don’t make the rules.

Sarah Nurse is the only Black player in women's hockey at the 2022 Olympics. And she has the most points. Sit with that glory. Revel in her excellence.

And support @BlackGirlHockey because there are more Nurseys out there. ❤

Sarah Nurse now holds the record for most points in a single women’s Olympic tournament (18). With her thirteenth assist at Beijing 2022, Nurse has broken the Olympic Winter Games single-tournament record for most assists previously set by Hayley Wickenheiser.

Earlier this month, Nurse told Complex Canada that one of her goals is to make hockey a more inclusive sport for athletes at all levels, especially people of colour.

“We’re at a very pivotal moment where if we don’t create a more inclusive environment, where everybody from every single walk of life feels welcome and included in our sport, it’s going to be stagnant, and it’s not going to grow,” she said.

Nurse also broke another record by scoring the most amount of points in an Olympic tournament.

It’s always great to wake up in a country where Marie-Philip Poulin lives.

Canadians are also pumped for team captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who scored two of three of Team Canada’s goals. She also now has three game-deciding goals under her belt.
