Conor McGregor has been fined $150,000 for the bottle-throwing incident at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference. The Nevada Athletic Commission unanimously voted on Monday to hand down the fine, which adds up to five percent of his $3 million purse from the event. The NAC also gave McGregor 50 hours of community service, as well as an anti-bullying campaign that he will be required to participate in.
Back in August, McGregor and his opponent, Nate Diaz, got into a heated altercation at the Copperfield Theater inside the MGM Grand. After both fighters shouted "Fuck your whole team!" at one another, Diaz flipped off McGregor, who responded by tossing a water bottle at him.
The situation escalated when Diaz's group started returning fire with anything they could get their hands on.
UFC president Dana White immediately put an end to the press conference, yelling, "That's a wrap!"
"I just want to apologize for the incident, "McGregor said, according to MMA Fighting. "It was a very unusual incident as I saw it unfolding even. I just acted wrong, and all I can say is I'm sorry and I will learn from this. ... This fight had everything on the line for me. This was the highest stakes fight I'd ever been in. I was in a different mindset. So all I can do is learn from it and learn to handle myself better if I find myself in a situation like that.
"I just want to own up and apologize for my part and say that it will not happen in the future. That's really all I can say."
While The Notorious's apology did seem genuine, it didn't take long for him to revert back to his old ways.
