Stephen Curry Says Colin Kaepernick ‘Definitely Should Be in the NFL’

During the Panthers-49ers opener on Sunday, Stephen Curry said Colin Kaepernick "definitely should be in the NFL."

As has been mentioned pretty much every time one of them is signed while Colin Kaepernick still remains a free agent, there are a lot of bad quarterbacks in the NFL right now. That fact was not lost on Stephen Curry, who attended Sunday's Week 1 opener between the Carolina Panthers (the team he roots for on account of growing up in Charlotte) and Kaep's former team, the San Francisco 49ers. It was during this lopsided contest that Curry posted an unambiguous #freekaep hashtag to his Instagram story, over a picture of the 49ers' massive team logo on the 50:

This comes just a day after Curry lent his public support to the currently unemployed signal caller while talking to The Charlotte Observer. (This isn't the first time he's supported Kaep, either.)

"He definitely should be in the NFL," Curry said to the Observer, on the subject of Kaepernick. "If you’ve been around the NFL, the top 64 quarterbacks, and he’s not one of them? Then I don’t know what game I’m watching."

Curry further praised the ex-Niners QB, who remains a hot topic in the league despite not actually being in it at the moment. "Obviously his stance and his peaceful protest when he was playing here kind of shook up the world, and I think for the better," Curry said. "But hopefully he gets back in the league—because he deserves to be here and he deserves an opportunity to play. He’s in his prime and can make a team better."

Curry added that he wished that both Kaepernick's protests, as well as all that he's gone through as a result of those protests, would "actually [lead] to some awakening."

We probably won't hold our breath on that.
