The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a mad dash to create a supporting cast around Anthony Davis and LeBron James. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the team is interested in bringing Dwight Howard back to the Staples Center.

The Washington Wizards traded Howard to Memphis in July, and the team is widely expected to waive the center before the season starts. Per Charania, the Lakers are hoping the Grizzlies grant them permission to talk with Howard prior to him being waived. According to the report, Howard is interested as well.

The Lakers' interest in Howard was ignited after a tragic injury suffered by DeMarcus Cousins. While working out in Las Vegas this week, he tore his ACL, and will be sidelined indefinitely. Cousins was hoping to play big minutes for the Lakers, who suddenly have a big hole in their roster.

Charania reports that the Grizzlies have indeed granted the Lakers permission to speak with Howard.

Howard first landed in Los Angeles for the 2012-2013 season. But, his jovial personality reportedly didn't mesh with Kobe Bryant's killer mindset, and he left after just one season. Howard hasn't been his dominant self in recent seasons, but he told The Athletic recently, that he no longer has an ego. "It's dead," he said.
