On Thursday, Feb. 28, it was reported that former Houston Texans wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was arrested on charges of vehicular assault.
Thomas' arrest stems from his involvement in a Feb. 16 car crash in Denver. Per reports, at the time of the accident, Thomas was driving 40 mph over the 30 mph speed limit. This led the wide-out to lose control of the car, resulting in the vehicle rolling three times across traffic before landing in a grass-filled median.
Due to Thomas' excessive speeding, authorities have decided to charge the NFL player with felony vehicular assault. The decision comes after a thorough investigation into the nature of the crash where police used "information from the vehicle and preliminary speed analysis" to verify Thomas' reckless behavior. A vehicular assault charge is a class five felony and is punishable by up to three years in prison.
As of now, there are no reports on whether Thomas was under the influence the night of the accident or the identities of those in the car with him. However, it is known that Thomas and his two passengers, a man and a woman, were reportedly injured in the crash. All there were transported to a hopsital, police said, with one person suffering serious bodily harm.
The Feb. 16 incident happened just four days after the Texans released the wide receiver. The decision to waive Thomas concluded to a disappointing season for the five-time Pro Bowler who went down with a torn Achilles in Dec. 2018.
