Andre Iguodala Thinks Steph Curry is the Second Best Player Ever Behind Michael Jordan

LeBron James might have something to say about that.

The Golden State Warriors really don't need Kevin Durant back. At least not according to Andre Iguodala, who doesn't just think that Steph Curry is the best player on the Warriors, but that he trails only Michael Jordan for the title of best player in NBA history.

During a conversation with The Athletic's Marcus Thompson, Iguodala praised his talented point guard's ability to take over a game/series. He then went on to claim that only His Airness was a better player than Curry.

Steph Curry, once again, overwhelms Portland. His Game 4 triple-double, sending the Warriors back to The Finals, is the latest gem in a long playoff resume.

"I always thought that about him," Iguodala stated. "I knew but other people didn’t know."

The other AI's comments come after Curry put together a dominating performance to lead the Warriors, as they swept Portland in the Western Conference finals. Although this victory sends Golden State to their fifth straight NBA Finals appearance, the series' biggest storyline is how well the team is playing without Durant, their perceived best player. In Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals, Durant was sidelined after suffering a strained calf. Prior to his injury, Durant was putting together a historic string of playoff performances, leading many to believe the Warriors would be in threat of elimination without KD. Yet, the Durant-less Warriors team has won all five of their playoff games , led by Curry's offense and Draymond Green's tenacity.

This hot-streak could have played into Iguodala's sentiments. Even if we exclude LeBron James' dominance, there are definitive stats to back this claim. For starters, Curry is the only player in NBA history to be unanimously named the league's MVP. Also, before Durant arrived in Oakland, Curry led the Warriors to a 73-9 regular season record. This bested Jordan's 1995-96 Bulls team for the squad with the most wins in a season. This, in addition to reasserting himself without Durant, gives the opinion some life. And if they win a ring before KD is able to return, Durant will have more questions to answer than Iguodala or Curry.
