David Ortiz has been moved from the intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, according to a statement made by his wife, Tiffany.

“He remains in good condition and continues to recover,” Tiffany said, according to ESPN. Doctors changed Big Papi’s status from “guarded” to “good” on Tuesday.

The former Red Sox player was shot in the back in the Dominican Republic on June 9 and transported to Boston the following day. Authorities confirmed last week that Ortiz was not the intended target of the shooting in the Dominican Republic.

The hit was allegedly  intended for Ortiz's friend, Sixto David Fernandez. Both were seated at the same table and dressed similarly. Police were able to confirm that Fernandez was the intended target because the individuals involved in the hit had a photo of him on them.

On Thursday, reports emerged that the confessed gunman was indicted for allegedly dealing heroin in New Jersey months before Ortiz was shot. According to Newark Federal Attorney Craig Carpenito, Cruz was in possession of more than 100 grams of heroin and cocaine with the intent to distribute. He was also accused of being in possession of a .40 caliber Glock and over 100 rounds of ammunition.

If convicted, he faces 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine.
