Bill Belichick and Tom Brady might not be all that interested in answering questions about Donald Trump right now. But Trump has been more than happy to talk about Belichick, Brady, and the Patriots in recent months.

Right before the 2016 presidential election, he told a crowd full of supporters about a letter Belichick sent to him. He has also boasted about receiving supportive phone calls from Brady in the months leading up to the election. And in a new feature published by New York Times Magazine that is based on a conversation Trump had with writer Mark Leibovich back in 2015, Trump talked at length about the faces of the Patriots’ franchise. He also discussed the time that he had a very close encounter with Belichick on the sidelines before a Patriots game in 2014.

Belichick isn’t known for being warm and cuddly when it comes to dealing with, well, anyone. But it sounds like he was head over heels when speaking with Trump. Here’s Trump’s account of their meeting:

"So I go to the Patriots game last year. I’m on the sidelines with [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft. He’s got Les Moonves right here. He’s got a lot of different people. And Belichick comes over in his Patriots sweatshirt and the hoodie and the whole thing. He hugs me, and he kisses me, and he said: 'I love you. You’re the greatest.'…He just feels warmly toward me, Belichick does. Isn’t that the craziest thing?"

Yes. Yes, it is. So crazy that it almost seems fake, doesn’t it? Good luck getting Belichick to pay any mind to it, let alone confirm or deny it.
