Arron Afflalo is scheduled to make almost $8 million this season as a member of the Knicks. So he’s prooooobably not going to need to start selling donuts and bootlegCDs anytime soon to make ends meet. But in a piece that he just penned for The Players’ Tribune, Afflalo describes selling those items to his classmates back in high school to make a quick buck.
The entire piece—which you can read here—is worth reading. It’s one of the more entertaining TPT pieces we’ve read recently. And the highlight is when Afflalo describes selling Kendrick Lamar a bootleg copy of Jay Z’s Reasonable Doubt. The two attended the same high school in Compton, Calif. and Afflalo was more than happy to hook him up…in exchange for five bucks. Here's an excerpt from the piece:
Afflalo got pretty good at playing basketball and eventually stopped selling donuts and bootlegs. But it sounds like he had quite the business going back then—and it might have inadvertently help changed the future of rap.
