The Drew League, a pro-am summer basketball league in Los Angeles, featured a star-studded lineup on Saturday, as LeBron James and DeMar Derozan joined forces to put on a show in front of a packed gym at King/Drew Magnet High School.
LeBron, in his first Drew League appearance since 2011, dominated with 42 points and 16 rebounds, while Derozan, a Los Angeles native, added 30 points and 14 rebounds en route to a 104-102 win.
LeBron’s performance arrives 11 years after he made his Drew League debut with a 33-point, 10-assist, and seven-rebound showcase.
The Los Angeles Laker took to Twitter after the game to express his excitement about performing in front of the Los Angeles crowd, which included guests such as Draymond Green and Quavo.
“Thank you @DrewLeague,” he wrote. “Loved the energy from start to finish! All for the city of [angel emoji].”
Kyrie Irving was expected to play in the game that took place prior to LeBron’s, but the Brooklyn Nets point guard failed to show up.
Longtime Drew League commissioner Dino Smiley told ESPN, “We still have a couple games left today and then six tomorrow, so we’ll see.” Smiley added that Irving’s expected appearance “sounded like it was going to be a sure bet, but I don’t know what happened.”
