Christian McCaffrey is headed from North Carolina to the Bay Area.
The dynamic dual-threat running back, who had a stellar collegiate career at Stanford, was traded late Thursday night to the San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers will receive a 2023 NFL Draft second-round pick, a 2023 third-rounder, a 2023 fourth-rounder, and a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Back in 2019, McCaffrey became just the third player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. The superstar running back now joins a 49ers offense that’s loaded with talent, as McCaffrey will be slotted alongside Deebo Samuel, who’s established himself as one of the best dual-threat offensive weapons in the league.
McCaffrey took to Twitter Friday morning to react to the news, thanking Carolina Panthers fans for their support over his first five seasons in the league.
“I’m forever grateful for all of the people who have helped make these past 5 ½ years so special for me,” McCaffrey wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Carolina, I will always love you.”
