Former NFL quarterback David Carr had some words for Jameis Winston after a video of him training started to circulate online. Now a free agent, Winston shared a clip of his workout regimen that saw him dodging an oversized speed bag that was being swung at his head. Carr, who has since become an analyst with the NFL after retiring from football in 2012, decided to offer some advice for Winston.
"Stop paying your friends to train you," said the retired Carr in response to the video. "Stop. Get some help. I've been in a lot of collapsing pockets and never once did I have defenders just flying at my head."
Fellow retired quarterback Danny Kanell chimed in, too, and called the comments a "lame criticism." He added, "He's working his butt off to get another shot. I think he gets it too and proves a lot of his critics wrong."
He ended the tweet with the hashtag, "#Cheap."
Winston didn't respond negatively to the comments, however, instead suggesting that Carr remain positive or reach out to help. "Hey bro I have nothing but love for you! Reach out to help or mind your business though," he replied. "I’ve been working with my personal trainer since I was 14! We built this from the bottom and we’re still building. Treat others how you want to be treated bro!"
