Few athletes ever enter the three-commas club, but it's safe to bet Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James will get there one day. Sporting News estimates King James is in the mid nine-figure range right now and well on his way to the billion-dollar mark.
The never-shy LaVar Ball, however, thinks his three sons will beat LBJ to that elusive goal.
LaVar shared his perspective during an appearance at the Pro Basketball Combine at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, this week. He was there to watch his middle son, LiAngelo, who is hoping to hear his name called during the 2018 NBA Draft, work out for scouts.
During the event, LaVar conversed with some combine staff. When one staffer estimated LeBron was worth close to $1 billion, LaVar corrected him: "No, $400 million, 15 years in the league."
He continued: "Check this out. This is nothing. Melo's shoes are $400. Lonzo's shoes are $500. If they sell a million shoes within a year or two, I'm giving them all the money. So that's $400-500 million they're gonna make right there...Lonzo, Gelo, and Melo are going to be the first ball players to be billionaires playing ball."
His point about the margins may be valid, but, needless to say, it's a longshot that they'll sell 1 million pairs of Big Baller Brand sneakers. LaVar seems to think it could happen, though, especially thanks to his sons' popularity in China. Check out the conversation in the video below.
It seems impossible, but LaVar has already made it clear he believes in speaking dreams into reality.
