Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard was arrested on Sunday for reportedly "roughing up" his fiancée.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Howard got into an altercation with his fiancée at their home in Davie, Florida. The woman claims Howard started arguing with her over a "recent purchase of a purse at a store that wasn't disclosed to her." The argument allegedly turned violent when Howard "grabbed both her arms and pushed her back up against the mirrored glass wall in the hallway of their bedroom."

Howard has been sidelined because he is recovering from knee surgery. When he let go of his fiancée, she reortedly fell on one of his crutches. Responding officers noticed "visible scratches and redness" on her arms as well as abrasions from falling on the crutch. There was enough evidence to take Howard into custody on suspicions of domestic battery

Howard complained to the officers that his knee was causing him pain. They took him to a hospital for evaluation to make sure that he didn't reaggravate any injuries. Once he was medically cleared, Howard was transported to jail. Before being placed on injured reserve in October, Howard was a valuable player for the Dolphins. He was selected for the 2018 Pro Bowl and was a bright spot on their defense.
