Looks Like Colin Kaepernick Never Actually Approved Travis Scott's Super Bowl Performance (UPDATE)

The ex-NFL quarterback is not cool with Scott's performance, at all.

UPDATED 2:35 p.m. EST: Sources from both Colin Kaepernick and Travis Scott’s teams have reportedly explained more about the situation. TMZ hears Kaep and La Flame did indeed meet before the rapper’s Super Bowl halftime show contract was signed, but it was more of an “are you on board with this?” conversation than a request for permission. It was unsuccessful, but "cordial and not hostile.”

Despite Travis’ respect for Kaepernick, a Scott source said, "Colin doesn't tell Travis what he can and can't do. That's Travis' decision."

Colin Kaepernick and company are denying reports that Travis Scott consulted with the ex-NFL quarterback and got his approval to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in Atlanta, per TMZ.

Quoting a report about the conversation by Variety, radio host Ebro Darden tweeted, "Kap did not approve this bullshit!"

Kaepernick seems to confirm as much, sharing Ebro's tweet and a few others denying the report, including the one below.

So you’re trying to tell ME that Kaepernick, a man that has been Blackballed by the NFL, costing him his career, for protesting against police terrorism, gave the green light to .@TrvisXX, a man that insinuated that Mike Brown was at fault in his death, to partner with the NFL?👌🏾 https://t.co/FQG1q8J58Y

Kap's girlfriend Nessa shared Ebro's tweet writing, "FACTS @EBRO!!! THEY NEED TO STOP LYING."

Nessa also quote tweeted Complex's story about the conversation, writing "There is NO mutual respect and there is NO understanding for anyone working against @Kaepernick7 PERIOD."

The report states that a conversation between Kaepernick and Scott took place, though the details of that conversation are murky. It did imply the former San Francisco player was understanding of Scott's performance, because the NFL agreed to donate $500,000 to the social justice organization Dream Corps.

The donation appears to be a clear attempt to blunt criticism that Scott and Maroon 5 are facing for their performance. “I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire," Scott said in a statement. "So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change."
