Floyd Mayweather's Bodyguard Shot Outside Atlanta Hotel, Police Say

The boxing champion's bodyguard was reportedly shot in the leg outside a luxurious Atlanta hotel.

Floyd Mayweather’s bodyguard was shot in the leg outside of an InterContinental hotel in Atlanta, local police said. The victim's condition is stable and recovery at Grady Hospital is underway. According to CNN, this wasn’t a random incident as investigators think something far more nefarious is going on.

According to an Atlanta Police Department (APD) statement, the investigators on the case claim it’s possible “the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle,” meaning this was a premeditated incident on the shooter’s behalf. Officer Lisa Bender, spokeswoman for the APD, said the bodyguard was traveling to a hotel in the Buckhead neighborhood as part of a three-car convoy around 3 a.m. when the incident occurred.

“We believe that Mr. Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the caravan and was not injured,” the APD statement said. According to TMZ, Mayweather was partying at the Medusa nightclub with rapper YFN Lucci and others on Sunday night. It is currently unclear whether the APD has any suspects.
