Back in 2014 when Joel Embiid was drafted by the 76ers, he decided to shoot his shot at a "famous girl." But he was rebuffed at the time, and according to him, the unnamed celebrity told him to come back when he was named to an NBA All-Star team. Tough but fair. And while he didn't specifically name this "famous girl," it doesn't take a genius to surmise that it was probably Rihanna, as The Process's public yearning for RiRi has been lacking in subtlety over the last few years.
Fast forward two seasons and Embiid—finally healthy enough to get on the floor for the Sixers this season—has enjoyed a solid rookie campaign thus far, with averages of 18.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. And with that production comes a renewed effort to book a trip to NBA All-Star Weekend and finally (finally!) score that long-awaited date with his "famous girl" crush. Embiid tried to sell himself to fans on Wednesday by proving that he hasn't forgotten about the suggestion made to him by the A-lister when he was first drafted:
This may seem like an odd way to lobby for yourself to get an All-Star bid but, then again, desperate times call for desperate measures. Try to remember Embiid's thirst if and when you cast your All-Star vote this season.
