In celebration of Nike’s annual Air Max Day, the brand has opened up interactive pop-ups in 12 cities across the globe including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Toronto that they've dubbed the 'Department of Unimaginable.'
The pop-ups in each city are filled with plenty of Air Max visuals and displays to highlight the silhouette's rich history. The interactive spaces are also playing host to City Department workshops that are unique to each city. The workshops are design-focused sessions that cover off Industrial Design, Color Design & Materials Exploration and Illustration & Typography and are hosted by Nike designers, collaborators and friends.
In Toronto there is a Design On Air Workshop (put on by Toronto-based trio Liam Goslett, Quinn Johnsen and Michael Chiu) that looks at sneakers from an analytical lens, and Art on Air Workshop (run by multimedia artist Diana Lynn VanderMeulen) that aims to provoke the subconscious, and a Photography on Air Workshop (run by self-taught photographer Vonny Lorde).
Toronto's Department of Unimaginable can be found at 1071 King Street West, and is open on Friday, March 29: 12-6pm, Saturday, March 30: 10-6pm, and Sunday March 31: 10-6pm. You can find more information and register to check out the Toronto space here: www.jointhedepartment.com.
