Deadline has learned that the mysterious manila envelope givenĀ to Olivia Wilde during the CinemaConĀ presentation of her upcoming film Donā€™t Worry Darling were custody papers from her ex-fiancĆ© and father of their two children, Jason Sudeikis.Ā

Wilde was presenting her latest directorial feature on Tuesday when someone approached the stage and slid an envelope towards her. ā€œThis is for me?ā€ she asked before opening it. A seemingly unfazed WildeĀ continued speaking to the crowd with the envelope in her hands before debuting the first full trailer, which was met with ā€œgreat applause.ā€Ā

It was initially reported that the envelope marked ā€œPersonal and Confidentialā€ contained an unsolicited script.

A spokesperson forĀ Sudeikis said Wednesday that theĀ Ted Lasso starĀ ā€œhad no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.ā€Ā The plan to hand-deliver the custody papers to Wilde at CinemaCon wasĀ allegedly orchestrated by his attorneys.Ā

CinemaCon headĀ Mitch Neuhauser toldThe Hollywood Reporter thatĀ security protocols will be reevaluated after someone was notĀ only able to attend the presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, but managed to get close enough to Wilde to pass the envelope to her.Ā

According to People, Wilde took time during her presentation to praiseĀ lead Florence Pugh, whom she said the film ā€œlives or diesā€ based on her role. She also jokingly referred to her boyfriend and Pughā€™s co-star Harry Styles as ā€œan up-and-coming actor with no other career that Iā€™m aware of.ā€ Styles assumed the role previously held by Shia LaBeouf, who was reportedly fired forĀ violating Oliviaā€™s ā€œzero asshole policyā€ on set.Ā

Wilde posted a lengthy message on Instagram, applauding Styles for taking on a supporting role in a female-led movie, a dynamicĀ she said most male actors wouldnā€™t want to do. ā€œNot only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliantĀ @florencepughĀ to hold center stage as our ā€˜Alice,ā€™ but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity,ā€ she wrote.Ā

Sudeikis briefly touched onĀ the aftermath of his decade-long relationship with Wilde in the August 2021 issue of GQ. ā€œThatā€™s an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about,ā€ he said. ā€œYou take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it.ā€Ā

Donā€™t Worry Darling is scheduled to hit theaters on Sept. 23.Ā
